Changes and Controversy.

I will be making A LOT of changes next year. What I mean by that is, I'll have more control over what I do, and I'll be releasing a very controversial novel next year. I'll be traveling a lot as well, and I may be in your neck of the woods (If you're in the U.S.). Stay tuned for more, folks! :-)

Dead 3 Years and No One Notices?

Joyce Vincent was 41 when she was found dead in her home, but she was 38 when she died. For three years, from 2003-2006, her body lay surrounded by Christmas gifts she was planning to wrap; the television still on.

How does this happen? Especially to a woman who was social, who two-years prior had a high-powered job at Ernst and Young, who had rubbed elbows with celebrities, and who wanted to get married? That’s what Carol Morley set to find out. But her new documentary film, “Dreams of a Life,” is about more than just Joyce Vincent, a young, beautiful London woman whose parents were from the Caribbean and who no one seemed to miss when she was gone. It’s about life, death, and loneliness.

To promote the film, the studio Hide & Seek, created a companion website called Dreams of Your Life to engage visitors to examine their own isolation with questions like, “Could something like that ever happen to me?” “Do you have friends?” “If you died, how long would it take for someone to find you?”

The questions are eerily introspective.“Our aim was to make something that would give people a chance to think about the people in their lives and think about whether or not there were any changes that they wanted to make about their degree of connectedness,” Hide & Seek’s Margaret Robertson said.

As for Joyce Vincent, her memory will live on in Morley’s film which debuted at the BFI London Film Festival in October and was shortlisted for best documentary there. You can also read more about her story here.

The film will be available for general release in March. Watch this clip and tell us what you think? Honestly, the way the trailer stuck with me, I don’t think I’d ever be able to get this movie out of my head.

Real or Unreal?

(blackmediaSCOOP) The teen who was shown in an Internet video being spanked by his uncle after the teen was caught boasting about his gang ties on his Facebook page was found shot to death in New Orleans. 16 year old Michael Taylor, was shot and killed on Dec. 7.

Taylor’s mother, Kimberly Ward, says she kept strict tabs on her son, even making him stay on the sidewalk in eyesight of their home when he went outside. The night of the shooting, she said, Taylor received a text message from a friend at about 8 p.m. and went outside to chat.

“She said she called him back inside a few minutes later to find out what was going on, and he told her he was just talking and went back outside. A few minutes later, her daughter received a text message saying that Taylor had been shot, and then another saying he was dead,” the newspaper reported.

She cited a couple of incidents that she said might have led someone to come after her son, but in each case, Ward maintained her son had been the victim of a misunderstanding or was targeted because of his connection to others who may have instigated a dispute.

She also said Taylor recently took a photo with a friend that was posted on Facebook, that the friend had been involved in an ongoing dispute with an Algiers group and that someone recently threatened Taylor when she took him to the mall recently.

Ward told the newspaper she believed her son’s friends, not his actions, led to his death. “He was guilty by association,” she said. In a video uploaded in January, Taylor’s uncle took a belt and spanked the boy after finding out about his gang ties.

I guess you can say it was the whipping heard around the world because the video went viral. A number of people wanted Taylor’s uncle prosecuted.

Before Taylor’s uncle started to hit Michael, he looked into the camera and told parents and people to stop “all these senseless crimes” and gang banging. In his profanity-laced tirade, the uncle went on to say that his nephew was not a gangbanger and didn’t come from a family that believed in gangs.

He also made Michael look into the camera and tell people on Facebook that he was not involved in gangs. His uncle then told him that the whipping he was going to give him wasn’t fake. He then proceeded to spank Taylor in full view of the laptop camera.

After the whipping, he told his nephew to “Facebook that!”

(blackmediaSCOOP) Cops say 23 year old Nobanda Nolubabalo allegedly matted 1.5kg of cocaine into her dreadlocks and boarded a plane from Brazil to Bangkok.

Had she been successful, she would have banked $1,925. However, Nolubabalo, who was coming from Brazil, was busted in Thailand after authorities discovered a suspicious white substance in her hair.

The substance turned out to be cocaine wrapped in plastic and concealed inside each lock. If you didn’t know, they don’t play with drug smuggling over in Asia.

Just one day prior, another South African was put to death by lethal injection for trying to smuggle 3kg of crystal meth into the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou in November 2008. DAMN!

(blackmediaSCOOP) O…M…G, this hazing mess has gone too far! Two Boston students were forced into playing a game called “wet biscuit” at a basketball camp in early July. The loser of the game was forced to eat an Oreo cookie covered in SEMEN!

The Andover High School basketball team has been torn apart by the hazing incident that left two students expelled from the school and seven more suspended.

The incident took place at Hoop Mountain basketball camp last summer and involved a “game” called “ookie cookie” or “wet biscuit.” One of the students coaxed into the incident had already transfered to another school before the hazing was first reported to a coach on Nov. 11, about four months after the incident occurred.

The accused face up to a year in jail and fines of $1,000. The camp has been kicked off the Stonehill College campus.

(blackmediaSCOOP) Ya nasty! A Texas woman was arrested after relatives said they caught her having sex with a 15-year-old boy on Thanksgiving Day.

The incident went down at a family gathering held on the holiday at a house in Oakridge Forest Lane in Spring. Police arrested 23 year old Amanda Billiris, after relatives said they witnessed her having sexual intercourse with the boy, the arrest report states.

The avid motorcycle racer has been charged with sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony, reports the Houston Courier. According to the Texas Penal Code, if convicted, she faces between two to 20 years in prison.

Billaris may also be fined up to $10,000 if she is found guilty. Billaris has been released on bond from the Montgomery County Jail.

What do you think?

(blackmediaSCOOP) SMDH! Cops say a mother and her live-in boyfriend would blow marijuana smoke in their baby’s face to make her stop crying and put her to sleep!

The woman and her live-in boyfriend have both been charged with causing fatal injuries to her toddler, who died Monday after the couple had been jailed on suspicion of severely abusing the girl.

27 year old Trevor Reid Swanson, seen below, was also charged with murder related to the killing of 2-year-old Nalaya Jordan. Her mother, 21 year old Tkeyah Jordan, was booked with Swanson into Washoe County Jail on charges of child abuse causing substantial injuries, child neglect and domestic battery causing substantial injuries.

Nalaya was hospitalized Nov. 22 after she had trouble breathing and went into full cardiac arrest, Reno police said. Investigators said she had numerous injuries including bleeding on the brain; retinal hemorrhaging; bruises; a burn on her face; ruptured liver and spleen; and healing fractures to her bones. OMG!

Stewart and Jordan allegedly told police the girl’s injuries were related to a fall from her crib Nov. 21. Court documents filed in Reno Justice Court described the baby’s short life: Her mother and her boyfriend blew marijuana smoke in her face to make her sleep, and if Nalaya “whined,” it triggered abuse from her caretakers, who told investigators they tried to self-medicate her injuries for fear the police would investigate them for child abuse.

Swanson and Jordan said they used marijuana daily and methamphetamine multiple times during the week, their arrest affidavit said. On Nov. 21, Jordan was sleeping because of meth use, and Swanson was watching the girl, authorities said.

Swanson allegedly told police that he was irritated with the baby’s crying and he picked her up and shook her to make her stop. He then allegedly struck her across the hip with a belt.

“…According to Tkeyah, Trevor became more and more violent over the last week or so, currently striking Nalaya in the face on almost a daily basis,” the affidavit said. “She said Nalaya’s whining was a trigger for both of them, but she did not approve of how Trevor was always hitting Nalaya. Tkeyah admitted her own faults as well, saying she will also strike Nalaya in the face on occasion … and further admits to spanking Nalayah hard enough it left a bruise on her buttocks.”

Lt. Mohammad Rafaqat said when Nalaya was hospitalized, she was near death and placed on life support. He said investigators suspect she had been abused for the past several months of her life.
